It is possible to drive from London to South Wales and back for less than £10 using smart energy tariffs, according to EV charger firm Ohme.
The saving on the 474 mile journey from London to Tenby comes from 1 April, when the Standard Variable Tariff for electricity will drop to 24.67p/kWh, representing a big saving compared to running a petrol car.
But, with Ohme, drivers can go even further by accessing some of the lowest price smart tariffs in the UK, it said.
On the new Standard Variable Tariff of 24.67p/kWh, EV drivers could potentially travel up to 160 miles for £10, but with Ohme and a smart energy tariff such as Intelligent Octopus Go, they could drive up to 500 miles – over three times more.
By comparison, a typical petrol car would travel just 60 miles.
Ohme is the official charger provider for Mercedes-Benz, Volvo Cars and the Volkswagen Group in the UK and Ireland as well as Genesis, Hyundai, Smart, Suzuki and XPeng in the UK.
Ohme is also the official exclusive charger provider for customers on the Motability scheme, the largest fleet operator in the UK, as well as Ford in Ireland and for Hyundai in France.
Ohme CEO David Watson said:
“Charging an EV with Ohme on a smart energy tariff at home will always be the most affordable place for drivers to charge their vehicles.
“And at a time when petrol prices are becoming increasingly volatile, there’s never been a better time to drive an EV – after all, who wouldn’t want to be able to do 500 miles for just £10?”
