TV presenter and architect George Clarke has partnered with ScottishPower to make homes healthier and more sustainable as research shows the large-scale consumer challenge around the issue of sustainability.

The partnership between the green energy firm and Clarke follows a Censuswide research commissioned by ScottishPower, which revealed two in three people in Britain (67%) believe greener living is out of reach, with many blaming the perceived cost versus benefits of green technology and confusion around energy tariffs.

The independent research of 2,000 UK adults also found that two-thirds (67%) believe installing green technology is simply too expensive, while almost half (49%) believe energy efficiency measures won’t meaningfully reduce their bills. In addition, around 55% think EVs don’t have enough range for long journeys while just over half (50.25%) say solar payback takes too long. also, nearly 30% (29%) still think smart meters bring no benefits.

Over the next 12 months, Clarke will undertake the ScottishPower ‘Great Green Challenge’ – a year-long initiative designed to help households understand how they can take steps toward greener living.

Clarke will show how even small changes, such as shifting your energy use, adopting smart meters to solar panels, heat pumps and home EV charging can make homes a little greener, one step at a time and at an affordable price.

And he’ll tackle many of the myths and obstacles along the way, proving that upgrading our homes and changing habits can have a positive impact on energy bills, now and in the future.

George Clarke said:

“People aren’t against going green – they just want straight answers. If something feels expensive or confusing, it’s only human to put it off.  I’ve partnered with ScottishPower because sustainability isn’t just part of their mission — it’s at the heart of everything they do. They’ve been leading the shift toward cleaner, greener energy for decades. The Great Green Challenge is about taking the country’s questions and finding out what’s true, and what’s not.

“Over the next year, I’ll be travelling the country with ScottishPower busting myths – in real homes, with real communities, and with real families. It’s not about changing everything overnight, it’s showing that those small, practical steps can add up to make a real difference – for your home, your bills, and your future too.”

Andrew Ward, Chief Executive of ScottishPower’s Customer Business, said:

“Our research shows that while a lot of people want to live greener, they are confused about cost and complexity – or aren’t fully aware of the real benefits.

“George is passionate about helping us cut through all of that and help people to take steps that are both right for their homes and their budgets. We’ve all seen his unique ability to make sustainable living feel both exciting and achievable, and that’s exactly what households across Great Britain need right now.

“Over the next year, our focus together is on giving people straightforward guidance and reliable information, busting myths and helping them understand the options available and the real benefits these changes can bring. Greener living shouldn’t feel out of reach – we’re here to change that.”
