Fleet charging solutions firm Fleete has secured planning consent for a 26 bay electric heavy goods vehicle (eHGV) shared charging hub near Birmingham.
The facility at Hams Hall Distribution Park in Coleshill, follows the development of its first 16-bay site at the Port of Tilbury.
Located off Faraday Avenue at the entrance to Hams Hall, the site sits within the country’s “golden triangle of logistics,” one of the UK’s most active logistics regions. The area is home to a high concentration of warehousing and distribution facilities, with direct connections to the M42 motorway and multimodal freight routes.
Fleete’s new facility will provide fleet operators with convenient, reliable and access to charging infrastructure, it said. The hub will allow 26 HGVs to charge simultaneously using 26 ultra-rapid chargers.
Selected chargers will include Megawatt Charging System (MCS) capability for future ultra high-power charging. The facility will provide eight truck-and-trailer bays, ten tractor bays, a welfare cabin for driver comfort and 15 park-and-drive car parking spaces to support flexible fleet operation.
While demand for zero emission vehicles continues to grow, limited charging infrastructure and the complexity of securing grid connections remain barriers to commercial fleet electrification, the firm added. Fleete’s shared charging hub aims to “address these challenges through a reliable, high powered charging solution designed to make fleet electrification more accessible and practical”.
It also provides fair and efficient sharing of grid capacity between Hams Hall tenants, and accessibility to EV charging for fleets operating in and passing through Hams Hall area, the firm concluded.
