Kaluza and BMW Group have collaborated on smart charging through a direct API integration between BMW’s Remote Charging Control and Kaluza’s advanced optimisation platform.

The connection enables real-time control of charging sessions to align with the lowest-cost, cleanest electricity available on the grid, supporting renewable generation and enhancing grid stability, the firms said.

For drivers, it delivers a simple experience with no need for manual scheduling or additional hardware, while ensuring every charge is as efficient and sustainable as possible.

BMW has chosen to bring charging APIs in-house, selecting only a limited number of trusted smart charging partners to integrate directly, it said.

The direct connection allows real-time communication between the vehicle, charger and grid, improving accuracy, security and responsiveness in charging.

It also “strengthens the foundation for greater user adoption and sets a new benchmark for collaboration across the industry”, the companies claimed.

Sarah Kenny, Global Head of OEM Partnerships at Kaluza, said:

“BMW has been a fantastic partner to work with and the pace of delivery on both sides has been exceptional.

“From contract signing to go-live in just three months, this milestone demonstrates how rapidly meaningful change can happen when technology and automotive leaders collaborate.

“This is not just about charging vehicles more efficiently. It is about creating the infrastructure for an intelligent, flexible energy system that benefits everyone.”
