The Energy Networks Association (ENA) is ramping up its Connect Direct service as the platform reaches 185,000 connection applications.

The platform makes it easier for companies and installers to seek approval from energy networks to connect domestic low-carbon technologies to the grid.

Domestic low-carbon installers can now receive instant grid connection approvals for technologies like solar panels and EV chargers, thanks to new AI-powered features.

The energy networks have been focusing their efforts on automating the process for installers, making it easier and faster while still ensuring data accuracy. This week sees the release of major updates to the platform, which saw 33% more auto-approvals on the first day.

Installers must meet a set of standardised requirements to accelerate through the application process. Applications that need further verification are sent to the relevant DNO to assess.

The changes also include auto-completion of installer details, auto-detection of cut-out type and auto-approval of commissioning documents submitted for generation installations.

Dan Clarke, Head of Innovation and Low Carbon Technologies at ENA, said:

“We are committed to making domestic LCT retrofit grid connection process as quick and easy as possible for installers. These new AI-powered features on ENA Connect Direct further enhances the platform, and makes it a one-stop shop for connecting domestic technologies to the grid.”
