Ultra-rapid electric vehicle (EV) charging network InstaVolt has declared 2025 to be the ‘Year of the Electric Road Trip’ with more EVs on the road than ever before.

It said that with more than 1.6 million EVs on the UK roads, which was an increase of almost half a million since 2024, the firm was celebrating road trips powered by 100% renewable electricity this summer.

The firm highlighted its drive-through bays and fully-accessible charge points at its new Winchester site as an example of supporting “real-world drivers with real-world needs”.

It has also introduced special discounted rates at select hubs until 31 August, called the Summer Special charging rate, and is available at locations including Pontefract, Bodmin, Winchester Superhub, Syon Park, Exeter, Derby and Southampton – offering charging from just £0.50 per kWh through the app or InstaVolt RFID card, and £0.54 with contactless.

The firm’s app also helps users find an ideal stop for their needs, whether fully-accessible bays, quick access to food and toilets, or facilities for children and dogs.

A recent poll on its social media channels discovered that the top destination for EV drivers this summer were the Lake District and Cornwall, where the firm has sites in Windermere and Exeter respectively.

Its sites also have a number of retail offers, including McDonald’s, Costa Coffee and Booths supermarkets for drivers to use while they top up.

InstaVolt CEO Delvin Lane said:

“No matter what kind of staycation you’re planning – from exploring historic towns to relaxing in rural hideaways – InstaVolt is there to keep your journey going.

“Now operating over 2,000 chargers across the UK, InstaVolt is focused on making EV travel fast, easy and everywhere drivers need it.”
