Public EV charge point operator Ubitricity has installed more than 10,000 EV charge points across the UK.

The news means around in every 10 public EV charge points is now being installed and maintained by the Shell subsidiary at the present time in the UK, it claimed.

Ubitricity are currently installing 2000 charge points in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, more than 500 in Waltham Forest and over 100 in Westminster. They have also recently completed the installation of 560 charge points in Birmingham.

These developments are part of ubitricity’s mission to make public EV charging more available to those who can’t charge at home, alongside helping local authorities to rollout robust public EV charging networks at speed and scale, it said.

The firm is also is looking forward to rolling out even more charging infrastructure under the Government’s £381m Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) Fund, which aims to deliver an additional 100,000 public charge points over the next few years.

Alexander Reinhardt, ubitricity CEO, said:

“Successfully installing 10,000 charge points in the UK is a huge milestone for ubitricity. The UK EV market has seen rapid growth, and providing convenient and accessible public charging is essential in encouraging even more drivers to make the shift to EV.

“With more than 10,000 ubitricity public charge points already across the UK, multiple live network expansions and our widespread growth plans, we are proud to support even more EV drivers and local authorities across the UK. It is a very exciting time to be part of ubitricity.”

A Department for Transport spokesperson said:

“We recently announced record discounts to help make EV ownership a reality for thousands more people and put money back in their pockets, with deals set to hit dealerships in the coming weeks.

“We’re also making strong progress towards expanding our public charging network across the UK, as shown by ubitricity installing more than 10,000 charge points. With a new public charge point added to the network every half an hour and over 82,000 already available across the UK, we are backing the public and industry to go electric.”

Melanie Shufflebotham, Founder and COO, Zapmap, said:

“We are delighted to see ubitricity reach this significant milestone — a real achievement. With close to 40% of households across the UK not having access to private parking, the provision of plentiful, convenient on-street charging is a critical part of the charging mix.

“We are looking forward to seeing further growth of local, close to home charging with the significant number of LEVI funded projects now approved for delivery.”
