Tony Clayton talks about his experience at the Transport + Energy Forum last November.

Tony highlights the importance of collaboration and communication between the public and private sectors, which is afforded by events like the forum, “the public sector can’t do it on its own”. He emphasises the importance of staying current and of having strong relationships with the private sector.

“I take the opportunity to come to these events to try to establish as many contacts as possible.

“Whenever you look at an agenda for an event, it’s either very predictable or it’s a surprise and I think this event has surprised me a little bit. You never know what to expect until you arrive and the content has been really insightful, it’s good to have the roundtable conversation with local authorities and private sector and it is interesting to hear from the likes of JLR about what they are doing in this space.

“That’s the type of information you don’t get just from the day to day work, which is why these sorts of events – cross sector, cross industry are so important. Whilst we have the best will in the world to talk to each other, sometimes the day job gets in the way.”

Collaboration between the public and private sectors is at the top of the agenda for our Fleet Electrification Forum on 9 July, where we are offering fully funded places for qualifying public sector officials.
