Business leaders are in favour of the UK Government’s green agenda and state recent policy announcements will help them achieve decarbonisation targets, according to research from Centrica Business Solutions.
The study revealed that a quarter (25%) of businesses that were surveyed had confidence in the government’s decarbonisation plans, with more than half (57%) citing that recent policy announcements, including Great British Energy and the National Wealth Fund, will support their net zero goals.
But one third (32%) believe that the government could do more to accelerate their carbon reduction plans, including investing in technology and innovation to make decarbonisation more accessible (63%) and increased spending on national infrastructure to support renewable energy generation (56%).
Businesses that include investment in energy management technology – such as on-site solar power generation and battery storage solutions – in their net zero plans will be able to secure their long-term energy needs.
According to the research, eight in ten (85%) firms have outlined targets to decarbonise their operations but rising energy costs (26%), budget restrictions (15%) and supply chain challenges (11%) remain the key barriers to achieving them.
Jean-Yves Cherruault, Head of Business Development Business to Business at Centrica Business Solutions, said:
“The energy transition has remained a key priority for the new government and it’s encouraging to see that businesses are in support of the green agenda and the plans for how energy is generated, stored and supplied in the UK.
“Businesses remain central to the UK’s energy transition and must continue to find the right balance between cutting carbon and managing costs. We’re seeing more firms becoming accustomed to adopting renewable energy technologies – with the benefits to reducing carbon emissions no secret.”
