Transport + Energy releases Delivery Plan

A Delivery Plan to the UK Government has been published by Transport + Energy, including key learnings from the brand’s Forum in November 2024.

This critical document includes vital insight into the challenges and opportunities of the transport and energy industries, as the UK Government accelerates the transition to decarbonisation and upcoming 2030 targets, and how the public and private sectors are delivering on progress.

It showcases the various ways that the sectors are driving forward change in the next five years, which is helping to deliver targets on issues such as charging, the energy transition, as well as broader 2030 net zero and 2050 goals.

The Plan includes the decarbonisation requirements of the two sectors, which represent billions of pounds in income to UK Plc, and millions of jobs across the clean transport and energy sectors. It includes input from charge point operators (CPOs), vehicle manufacturers, energy firms, local authorities and public sector organisations, as well as other private businesses in the space.

Overall, the discussion and analysis in the Plan includes top-ticket items from industry and government, such as an assessment of the progress on the ZEV Mandate and future plans, as well as various other legislative ways that can assist both the energy and transport sectors in other ways, whether through direct funding, sector-specific initiatives, and broader policy requirements against net zero, such as planning law.

Highlighted throughout the Plan are real-world examples of how the sectors are moving from action to delivery. This includes the various individual working methods that both the private and public sectors are using to achieve their goals.

There are examples of cross-sector, industry, public and private sector collaborations, technological advances and innovation in energy management, planning, and the methods for shifting business and consumer sentiment on decarbonisation.

In addition, there is the use and analysis of key data and insight into the working practices of the professionals at the forefront of the decarbonisation of the transport and energy agenda, who offer their views on how the government needs to respond to the industry in order to accelerate the transition. This includes surveys and information delivered at the Forum, which illustrates sector sentiment on crucial issues, and will assist the government in understanding the sector’s needs.

All of this insight will be particularly useful to informing the mission-critical targets of the UK Government, and as it moves forward to the publication of its Industrial Strategy in Spring 2025, and its consultation on the phase-out of internal combustion engines by 2030 which is due to conclude in February 2025.

Transport + Energy Founder and Editorial Director Alec Peachey said:

“The Delivery Plan is an exclusive, critical output from the Transport + Energy Forum. It showcases in detailed and various ways the ultimate purpose of T+E: how the two sectors are uniting.

“The report offers to government a brilliant example of how collaboration of the two sectors will be crucial in the journey to decarbonisation – and how policy and funding support will help to create certainty and drive delivery into action. We look forward to continuing to engage with the Government and both sectors to help accelerate decarbonisation.”

The Delivery Plan document is due to be presented to the UK Government at a special meeting in Westminster to the Chair of the Energy Security and Net Zero Committee, Bill Esterson on Tuesday 14th January 2025.
