Megawatt V2G charger launched
Electric vehicle (EV) charge point supplier Project EV has launched a megawatt vehicle-to-grid (V2G) charger, designed specifically for the growing fleet of eHGVs.
This hyper-speed solution, delivered with Department for Energy Security & Net Zero and Innovate UK, is one of the first of its kind in the UK, and enables large electric vehicles to power up rapidly and feed energy back to the grid, balancing demand during peak time.
The commercial 1MW V2G charging system offers both financial and operational advantages. The V2G technology allows EVs to draw energy from the grid to power their batteries and return excess energy, generating additional revenue and helping offset the initial cost of electrification.
The megawatt V2G charging solution is designed and developed by Project EV to be install and designed for high-demand charging environments such as commercial locations, large fleet operations, and highway rest stops.
It comes equipped with robust terminals and a power cabinet capable of managing up to ten outlets, designed to meet diverse charging needs. This includes compatibility with MSC (liquid-cooled), CCS (liquid-cooled), and CCS (air-cooled) systems.
Richard Pink, Chief Technology Officer at Project EV said:
“The ‘Electric Heavy Goods Vehicles – first roll-out and demonstration of V2X and grid decarbonisation’ project, part of the V2X Innovation Programme, is funded by the Department for Energy Security & Net Zero and delivered by Innovate UK. V2X is part of the up to £65m Flexibility Innovation Programme, funded from the £1 billion DESNZ Net Zero Innovation Portfolio.
“We are excited to play a key role in the groundbreaking ‘Electric Heavy Goods Vehicles – first roll-out and demonstration of V2X and grid decarbonisation’ project, part of the V2X Innovation Programme funded by the Department for Energy Security & Net Zero and delivered by Innovate UK.
“Over the past year, our team has worked tirelessly to design and deliver the cutting-edge hardware for this trial. We are immensely proud of the innovative charging solution we’ve developed, featuring exceptional versatility with multiple charging guns tailored to meet diverse customer requirements. This project represents a major milestone in the journey toward sustainable transportation and the decarbonisation of our energy systems.”
