Octopus Electric Vehicles (Octopus EV) has launched an exclusive discounted energy tariff for its EV leasing customers in time for the school holidays.

Through its sister company Octopus Energy, the Intelligent Octopus Go – EV Saver will provide a discounted off-peak rate of just 6p per kWh exclusively for OEV customers – saving an average driver roughly £1,076 per year versus fuelling a petrol car.

The discounted tariff, which comes as the school summer holidays commence, will see the average EV on the EV Saver tariff travel from London to Cornwall for under £5 – compared to roughly £30 in a petrol car.

The new tariff is a cheaper version of the UK’s most popular EV tariff – ‘Intelligent Octopus Go’ – which has more than 160,000 customers and manages well over 1GW of shiftable electricity, the UKs largest virtual power plant.

Customers can use the Octopus Energy app to set the time they want their vehicle ready and what the level of charge should be. Octopus’ tech platform, Kraken, then works in the background to charge up when the grid is greenest.

Fiona Howarth, CEO of Octopus Electric Vehicles, said:

“Too often we only focus on the sticker price of an electric car, and forget the huge ‘fuel’ savings to be made [when on the right tariff]. What’s more, outright prices of new models entering the market are coming down, with consumer choice ramping up.

“With school holidays upon us, and many of us making some of the longer trips we’ll take this year, our drivers can get away knowing they’ve got the best value tariff around.”
