Polestar expands operations

Polestar has outlined plans to expand its commercial footprint and retail operations, including a new managing director for its UK business.

The company is widening its retail footprint with existing and new partners, as part of a shift to a non-genuine agency sales model across Europe. Customers will be able to order cars online as well as through a network of physical Polestar Spaces. Sweden and Norway switched earlier this month with other key markets set to follow later this year.

In addition it is expanding across seven new markets, including France, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Poland, Thailand and Brazil via local distribution partnerships.

The news comes as Matt Galvin has been appointed to lead the Polestar brand in the UK and Ireland from 1 July.

With an automotive career spanning 20 years, Galvin has held senior roles in Mercedes Benz UK, Volvo UK, Nio UK, and most recently a Polestar global sales role.

In addition, other management appointments have been made, reporting to Kristian Elvefors, Head of Commercial, with Anders Gustafsson succeeding Gregor Hembrough as Head of North America. In Norway, Marius Hayler succeeds Alexander Hørthe, who has now left the business.

Galvin said of the appointment:

“As we move from a single car line-up to a three-car brand, and with bold plans for growth over the next few years, it couldn’t be more exciting time to be assuming the role.

“I very much look forward to working with the existing Polestar UK and Ireland teams and we wish Jonathan a long and healthy retirement.”

Thomas Ingenlath, Polestar CEO, said about the expanding of operations and team members:

“Through these partnerships and expansion, we will capitalize on our strong brand and growing model line-up.”

“I am delighted to welcome this group of talented and experienced leaders to the Polestar team. Through these appointments, we are strengthening our sales teams and bringing in additional expertise at a pivotal point in our development, as our model line-up expands to include two new SUVs.”

“We are delighted to welcome Matt into his new role. The UK is a key market for Polestar, and we look forward to seeing the brand go from strength to strength as we expand from a one to three-car company this year.”
