Aqua superPower expands marine charging services to support commercial ports

Global marine fast charge network operator Aqua superPower is expanding its services to support commercial ports on the path to net zero.

Recognising battery electric vessels as a key solution for the maritime sector’s decarbonisation, Aqua is aiming to address the needs of commercial operations such as ferry services, patrol, port services, and workboats.

The push towards a sustainable maritime future is gaining momentum, with Aqua at the forefront. In addition to the UK government funding received for the Zero Emissions Network of Workboats (ZENOW), which secured a grant of £4.1 million from the UK Shipping Office for Reducing Emissions (UK SHORE) and Innovate UK, Aqua has successfully secured further funding. This financial backing will enable the expansion of Aqua’s services to the unique requirements of commercial ports and harbours.

Electric workboats are poised to capture a significant share of the global market, projected to reach 11.8% by 2032. The primary source of emissions in these vessels stems from the combustion of heavy fuel oil in their diesel engines, contributing to air and water pollution. Aqua recognises the urgent need for sustainable solutions to meet both national and international maritime decarbonisation goals, and the company is well-positioned to fulfil the growing demand for charging infrastructure at no cost to the site owner and operator.

Alex Bamberg, CEO of Aqua superPower stated:

“As we embark on this strategic expansion into commercial ports, we are proud to be at the forefront of the maritime industry’s shift towards a sustainable future. By recognising battery electric vessels as a pivotal solution, Aqua superPower is committed to supporting commercial operations on their journey to achieving net-zero emissions. The global maritime sector is at a turning point, and Aqua superPower is well-positioned to address the pressing need for sustainable solutions. Our dedication to providing cost-free charging infrastructure to commercial ports aligns with our mission to propel the adoption of battery electric vessels forward, contributing significantly to global decarbonisation goals.”

Jean Luc Desmars, LHD Président said:

“LHD is developing and financing the first electric mooring boat for commercial port application, to be launched in Q4-24. We have partnered with Aqua Superpower on the fast-charging solution which will allow our vessel to recharge in less than one hour on a 400kW DC charger”

Aqua superPower has a proven track record in supporting leisure marinas worldwide with innovative marine fast charging solutions. Leveraging this experience, Aqua is committed to replicating its success in the commercial ports sector, ensuring a seamless transition towards cleaner, more sustainable maritime practices.
