Councils and their consultants are being invited to a webinar which is being delivered by Foster Contracting – a provider of geosynthetic interlayers for crack reduction in asphalt surfaces.

Participants will find out how geosynthetics can optimise pavement performance by preventing premature failure and extending pavement life to achieve whole life cost and carbon savings.

Foster Contracting supply and lay geosynthetic interlayers for crack reduction in asphalt surfaces, runway rubber and paint removal, surface retexturing and other specialist surface treatments.

Ian Fraser, Technical Consultant at Foster Contracting, will deliver a presentation entitled ‘An introduction to geosynthetic asphalt interlayers and their benefits’.

The webinar is being hosted on the Local Council Roads Innovation Group (LCRIG) webinar platform on 24th October at 11am.

Ian said: ‘‘With local councils facing increased budget constraints, I am looking forward to the opportunity to update industry professionals on how they can be sustainable in their approach to maintenance of pavements, without breaking the bank.”

‘’I will be covering a range of topics including common asphalt surfacing failures and how and where geosynthetic interlayers can help.’’

He added: ‘’The ALARM survey, published by the Asphalt Industry Alliance (AIA), earlier this year reported that local authority highway teams in England and Wales only received around two-thirds of what they needed to stop local roads from further deterioration and that more than £14 billion is now needed to fix the backlog of carriageway repairs.

‘’With this in mind, councils need to look at what they can do and who’s available to help them. Through this webinar, I hope to be able to help educate the highways sector and leave attendees with some ideas around how the introduction of geosynthetic asphalt interlayers can lead to cost and carbon savings.’’

Other areas set to be covered by Ian include:

  • Modes of pavement failure
  • Supporting research and testing
  • Installation best practice
  • Pertinent regulations and standards

Those wishing to attend the webinar can register or sign in to the LCRIG webinar platform here and add the upcoming session entitled ‘An Introduction to Geosynthetic Asphalt Interlayers and their Benefits’ to ‘My webinars’.
