Govt to deliver decarbonisation update at BVRLA conference

Next month, the BVRLA’s (British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association) Fleets in Charge Conference will assemble a line-up of Government and industry leaders to explore the UK’s decarbonisation journey.

The agenda will highlight the progress that is being made and the collaborative innovation that is driving it. All this comes at a time when the Government’s phase-out target for banning the sale of new petrol and diesel vehicles is under more scrutiny than ever.

“The fleet sector has always led the way in adopting new technologies and bringing cleaner, greener vehicles to our roads,” said BVRLA Chief Executive, Gerry Keaney. “We will be highlighting the latest exciting developments at our conference on 20th September. Speculation over deadlines saps confidence and breeds uncertainty. We have a phase-out plan… let’s stick with it.”

Throughout the Fleets in Charge Conference delegates will receive timely insights and tips showing how different parts of the fleet and mobility services sector are embracing new zero emission technology, exploring new business models and giving customers the confidence to make the transition.

As the countdown to the launch of the UK’s ambitious new Zero Emission Vehicle Mandate continues, a senior Government official will outline the upcoming policy milestones that can be expected in the run-up to the 2030 phase-out.

Giving the local perspective and highlighting how fleets and Local Authorities can work together, a separate ‘masterclass’ will deliver direct guidance on how to work with local authorities and clients from the public sector.

The Government update will be followed by keynote speeches delivered by senior executives that are leading the transition toward zero emission mobility. Spanning fleet operations, rental and leasing, each will provide a unique take on the routes being taken to decarbonise the sector.

Alongside those keynotes from Mobility Operations, Europcar, and Arval UK, insight panels will explore the UK’s charging infrastructure challenges and the Used EV market.

“Meeting the phase-out target will require sustained effort and investment. Businesses need clarity on what is required and confidence that the goalposts are not going to shift. Abandoning or watering down the phase out plan at this stage would create widespread uncertainty and distrust, causing progress to stall or even reverse,” concluded Keaney.

Official partners for Fleets in Charge in 2023 are The AA, Arval UK, Auto Trader, Dynamon, Fleet Assist and Mina. Transport + Energy is the official media partner.
