SSE Energy Solutions signs up Paua as first roaming network partner
SSE Energy Solutions has agreed a deal with leading electric vehicle (EV) fleet fuel card innovators, Paua, to enable their customers to use SSE’s expanding EV charging network.
This agreement means that Paua drivers will be able to benefit from the growing network of SSE ultra-fast charging hubs and start the charge with a simple tap of their Paua card.
The news comes just days after SSE Energy Solutions announced a major deal with M7 Real Estate to install charging hubs at 20 locations they manage on behalf of global commercial real estate investor, asset manager and business builder, Oxford Properties (Oxford).
SSE plans to open 300 of its own ultra-fast charging hubs across the UK and Ireland over the next five years and is committed to making the charging experience efficient and simple. The partnership with Paua will ensure charging stops are consistent and effortless. The fuel card can already be used at the first of SSE’s hubs on Glasgow’s Castlebank Street which went live in September.
A recent survey of 1,500 EV users by consumer group Which? found that 61 per cent have suffered difficulties making payments. Paua created their electric fuel card to simplify the process for businesses, making the best use of the technology built into EVs and smart phones and doing away with the need for time consuming receipt claims from credit card payment processes. Paua is the largest EV roaming network for business drivers in the UK bringing power everywhere to leading fleet brands.
Simon Pickett (main picture), SSE Energy Solutions EV Technology and Innovation Lead, said: “This is a great opportunity for SSE Energy Solutions and Paua to collaborate, supporting fleet charging with as little fuss as possible. We are 100% committed in the battle to reach net zero. Anything that encourages the uptake of EVs and makes charging access and experiences easier is good news for us all.
“We will continue to develop our relationship with Paua and other pioneering partners to bring more sites online and give both private drivers and fleet operators access to the services they need as quickly as possible.”
Niall Riddell, Co-founder and CEO of Paua Tech, added: “We are transitioning away from fossil fuels. But we are also living in a more digitised and connected world. Bringing the best of technology to this energy transition is what we do at Paua. We are enabling the payment layer for the future of mobility making the large-scale adoption of EV’s a breeze. And we know that when leading utilities, such as SSE, enter the infrastructure arena the pace of change is going to be significant. ”
