Electric bike image aims to drive decarbonisation of production
Energy company Vattenfall and electric motorbike maker Cake have unveiled a concept to showcase the drive for carbon savings from their fossil-free dirt bike project.
The duo revealed an image of a single Cake Kalk OR off-roader suspended within a transparent 8.6m-tall cube.
This represents the 637 cubic metres of carbon emissions currently resulting from the manufacture of the bike.
It is designed to raise awareness of the work being undertaken by the partners to decarbonise the production process for the electric vehicle.
Materials, components and parts are being investigated as part of the bid to move to fossil-free manufacture.
Cake chief executive Stefan Ytterborn said: “It’s unlikely that many companies are aware of the carbon footprint from their own products.
“To understand and tackle our own impact, we have measured the emissions from our entire production chain for one CAKE Kalk OR and started to decarbonise every step to a minimum by 2025.
“Our second most important contribution to the planet is to inspire other manufacturers to step up and do the same.”
Vattenfall head of corporate sustainability Annika Ramsköld added: “Vattenfall works to enable fossil-free living within one generation and is dedicated to finding partnerships that inspire and break barriers.
“This is one such project, where our main contribution is the broad knowledge in fossil-free solutions and electrification of industries.”
