Home & Roam to simplify EV charging and payments

‘Home & Roam’ solution to simplify EV charging and payments thanks to OZEV funding.

Leading cleantech players GenGame, Evergreen Energy and Paua Tech have been awarded funding to develop a comprehensive ‘Home and Roam’ charging solution to meet the home and public charging needs of EV drivers.

It will launch in late 2021, initially to customers of sustainable energy supplier, Green Energy UK.

The Home & Roam solution will enable electric vehicle drivers, and their friends, to smart charge their EV at home for the lowest prices and easily access public charging whilst out on the road, all managed via a single app. The costs are simply settled via the customers home electricity bill.

The consortium is led by energy app and consumer engagement experts, GenGame, supported by Evergreen Energy as the VPP provider, Paua as the public roaming partner and Green Energy UK as the energy supplier.

GenGame’s CEO, Stephane Lee-Favier, said: “EV drivers need a simple, accessible solution for all their charging needs. This project and consortium will enable us to quickly design and roll out a solution to make charging as easy, cheap and green as possible for the rapidly growing number of EV drivers in the UK.

“The progression of our customers to electric cars is inevitable. They represent some of the most sustainably minded consumers in the UK and we want to make their transition as simple as possible. As a leading supplier of sustainable solutions we are excited by the potential of this project”.

Evergreen Energy’s MD, Andy Mckay, said: “The world is changing rapidly, especially with regards to renewable energy. In just a few years, energy produced from the wind and the sun will be powering many of our car journeys. Evergreen Energy is proud to be a driving force behind the delivery of this positive change.

“Our focus is on creating new and better ways for people to get the energy they need, whether at home or away. Home and Roam builds on Evergreen’s existing flexibility platform that has proven to enable motorists to reduce the cost, and the carbon intensity, of charging their electric vehicles.”

Niall Riddell, MD at Paua, said: “We want to make public charging simpler. Partnering with a leading green energy company enables us to bring even more simplicity to EV drivers lives. ‘Home & Roam’ is funded by the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV) in partnership with Innovate UK.
